CONNECT WITH THE DEAF: An Overlooked Harvest
CONNECT BRAZIL — CONNECT WITH THE DEAF was a wonderful opportunity to understand and assist with an often forgotten part of the world mission field—the Deaf community. Brazil has several million people who suffer from hearing loss, and it is estimated that there are over 70 million deaf worldwide.
Though many deaf individuals in Brazil identify culturally with traditional religious institutions, less than 2% have ever heard or understood the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. The CONNECT Team worked in direct partnership with local Independent Baptist churches in the state of São Paulo that are actively planting churches and evangelizing deaf individuals.
Ministry Activities & Outreach
The team engaged in active hands-on ministry across three Brazilian cities, including Ribeirão Preto and Jundiaí:
Key Ministry Focus Areas
- Street Canvassing & Deaf Outreach: Locating deaf individuals and their families in urban neighborhoods to share tracts and invitations.
- Church Conferences & Special Services: Participating in church services, giving personal testimonies, and assisting with an encouraging Deaf Ministry conference.
- Deaf Youth & Fellowship: Building relationships and encouraging local deaf believers and interpreters.
- Strengthening National Pastors: Providing encouragement and resources to Brazilian pastors ministering among the deaf.
